Veteran Yoruba actor, Asa Koko dies after prolonged illness

Renowned Yoruba actor, Asa Koko, has passed away.

His junior colleague, Kunle Afod, shared the sad news on Instagram, posting a video from his last visit to Asa Koko’s home.

In the video, the late actor recounted his struggle with an undisclosed illness, which kept him in the hospital for over two years. He mentioned that the state governor had visited him during his treatment.

Asa Koko, who was married to 10 wives, also showed Afod his swollen leg, expressing gratitude to God for keeping him alive through the ordeal.

Confirming his passing, Afod wrote a heartfelt message praying for Asa Koko’s soul to rest in peace.

In other news, Veteran Nollywood actor, Charles Inojie, has urged Nigerians to commend the film industry for shedding light on societal issues like ritual killings, spiritual fortification, internet fraud, and organ harvesting instead of blaming it for such crimes.

In an interview with Punch, Inojie argued that Nollywood should not be held responsible for society’s moral decay. He emphasized that storytelling in movies reflects real-life events, not an endorsement of criminal activities.

He also advised parents to take responsibility by instilling strong family values in younger generations, ensuring they understand the importance of hard work rather than seeking shortcuts that often lead to disaster.

Reacting to criticisms that Nollywood glorifies crime, Inojie said, “Can we, in good faith, say that all Nollywood movies revolve around rituals? The fact that such stories exist only mirrors the reality of ritual killings for power, wealth, and organ harvesting in our society.”
