Vice President Kashim Shettima arrives China for BRI Forum
The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has touched down in Beijing, China in preparation for the upcoming 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum.
This was officially communicated by the presidency through a statement released on Monday.
Recalling Shettima’s departure from Nigeria on Sunday, as verified in a statement by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, it was mentioned that the Vice President would be standing in for President Bola Tinubu at the forum.
Nwokocha noted that Shettima would participate alongside world leaders from over 130 nations during the forum scheduled from October 16 to 18.
The theme of the forum, as outlined by Nwokocha, revolves around “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”
Nkwocha further stated that Shettima’s agenda included utilizing the forum as a platform to attract investors for various developmental projects in Nigeria.
He also mentioned that Shettima would engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from other countries to bolster Nigeria’s trade and investment relationships, aligning with the economic development objectives of the Tinubu administration.
Upon his arrival in China, Vice President Shettima received a warm welcome from the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Vice Chairman of Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, Mr. Li Yingjin, and the Deputy Director General of African Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mr. Yu Yong.
