VIO crush over 1,500 seized motorcycles in Abuja

The Directorate of Road Traffic Services, popularly known as Vehicle Inspection Officers, have crushed no fewer than 1,500 motorcycles impounded at locations in the Federal Capital Territory. The motorcycles were seized between January and June 2021.

He said, “We have begun the crushing of seized motorcycles that have been duly forfeited by the court of law. There are about 1,500 of them. There are other 600 motorcycles that are undergoing the process of forfeiture, we would also follow the same procedure with these ones.

“We believe this would serve as a deterrence to people who have refused to follow the rules guiding the operation of motorcycles in the FCT. The law-abiding ones have no problem with us. This exercise will continue until the last motorcycle is completely crushed.”

There are about 1,500 of them crushed as there are about 600 motorcycles that are undergoing the process of forfeiture. We would also follow the same procedure with these ones.

Speaking during the exercise, Babaji Sunday, FCT commissioner of police, alleged that the motorcycles are used by individuals to perpetrate crime in the city.
