All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in Benue State has assured the people of Otukpo and Katsina-Ala that it will restore pipe borne water to the two towns in the next one week.
Addressing newsmen at his country home in Otukpo-Icho at the weekend, the Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, said decision to restore water supply to the two towns was made after an exhaustive meeting with CGC, the company that built the water facilities.
“After a meeting on how to go about the debt with CGC, we have resolved that the water works be opened to supply water to Otukpo and Katsina-Ala within the next one week,” he said.
He noted that CGC had entered into contractual agreement with the state government to operate and maintain them, but CGC later stopped pumping water to the two towns because government failed to live up to its contractual agreement, which amounted to N1.980 billion.
The deputy governor explained further that experts from the side of government and CGC would sit down and agree on the legitimacy of the liability, after which government would work out a programme for payment.
