WCQ: Super Eagles Seek First Win in Rwanda After Three Goalless Draws
The Super Eagles will be eager to end their winless run against Rwanda when they face the Amavubi in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday (today).
Nigeria has failed to secure a victory in their previous three visits to Rwanda, all of which ended in goalless draws.
The first meeting between both sides in Kigali—a 2006 World Cup qualifier—ended 0-0 at the Amahoro Stadium 25 years ago.
In 2011, they played out another 0-0 draw in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Stade Regional de Nyamirambo.
Most recently, in September last year, the two teams once again shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw during a 2025 AFCON qualifier at the same Amahoro venue.
This time, the Super Eagles face a must-win scenario after a poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Eric Chelle’s side remains winless in Group C after four games and sits in fifth place with just three points.
