‘We all know she needs help’ – Rollas criticizes colleagues over Regina Daniels’ marital crisis
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has criticized his colleagues for staying silent amid the marital issues between Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Thursday, Rollas expressed disappointment that many in the industry are aware of Daniels’ health challenges but have chosen to speak negatively about her behind her back.
He recounted instances where senior actors, including Okey Bakassi, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, and others, observed Daniels’ behavior on a movie set and recognized that she required support. Rollas also recalled that Nwoko publicly highlighted his wife’s health concerns during their son’s birthday celebration.
The AGN president further criticized Daniels’ mother, Rita, for pursuing her ambition to become AGN president while her daughter’s well-being allegedly remains in jeopardy.
Addressing allegations that Nwoko has funded the AGN, Rollas refuted the claims and condemned the lawmaker for airing personal family matters in public.
In his statement, Rollas said:
1. On Prince Ned Nwoko & Regina Daniels: “Prince Ned Nwoko is the Chairman, Board of Patrons, AGN, and Regina Daniels is a member of the Guild. I know them personally. This is fundamentally a family matter, which is why I remained silent. But as AGN President, and with my name constantly dragged, I must speak the truth.”
2. Silence of the Industry & Board of Trustees: Rollas noted that while he has been at the forefront of disputes, many senior colleagues who witnessed events firsthand—Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji—have remained silent. “Your silence is unfair and exposes me to attacks for issues I did not create,” he said.
3. South Africa Roundtable: He highlighted that Nwoko set conditions for Daniels’ travel during a planned South Africa roundtable, insisting she avoid traveling through Lagos.
4. Son’s Birthday Incident: Rollas detailed an incident during Daniels’ son’s birthday, where Nwoko reportedly addressed her smoking habits in public and highlighted concerns to both her family and industry colleagues.
5. Message to Rita Daniels: Rollas urged her to prioritize her daughter’s home and health over ambitions for AGN leadership. He warned that glorifying harmful habits as “celebrity lifestyle” could set a dangerous example for younger members.
6. Message to Ned Nwoko: Rollas advised the senator against publicly calling out his wife, emphasizing that the matter could have been handled privately. He also clarified misinformation regarding Nwoko’s alleged funding of the Guild, stating that the ₦200 million was for his wife’s film production, not AGN.
Rollas concluded by stressing that he is speaking out to defend his reputation, as the silence of other stakeholders has compounded the issue.
