‘We are in darkness’ – Benue community decries continuous power outage

Residents of Zaki Ubele Layout ( Welfare Quarters phase 2), Makurdi Benue State have called on the Jos Electricity Distribution Company as well as the member representing the good people of Makurdi/Guma federal constituency to rescue them from perennial darkness.

The residents said the darkness they now experience was caused by an overloaded transformer servicing three communities viz; Zaki Ubele Layout, Behind Prison layout as well as part of Ste- Iwenge area.

They made this call in a statement issued on Wednesday in Welfare Quarters Makurdi and jointly signed by Hon. Akumbur Jude Terfa and Sunday Awuamsho on behalf of the affected community.

According to the statement there is only one transformer providing electricity to the three communities, the said the population of the community has grown over years, hence the lone transformer cannot carry the load.

The furious residents said their businesses have been paralyzed and they are incurring great lost everyday.

“As a community we urge JEDC as well as our able Leader representing the good people of Makurdi/ Guma in his usual benevolent nature please come to their aid.” The representatives said.
