A major breakthrough has been made in the ongoing pursuit of the audacious armed robbers responsible for the recent attacks on four banks in Otukpo town, located in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. This unfortunate incident resulted in the tragic loss of no less than seven lives, including three police officers.
According to a statement from the Benue State Police Command, the Otukpo Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP John Adikwu, along with other police teams in the area, courageously engaged the armed robbers in a fierce gun battle. Regrettably, they were unable to prevent the robbers from attacking the banks. In response to this incident, additional police teams have been deployed to Otukpo, working in collaboration with other security agencies, to help restore stability to the area and to prevent the robbers from escaping.
The statement revealed that the police intercepted the robbers along the Otukpo-Taraku road, leading to an intense gunfight. During the exchange of gunfire, two of the robbers lost their lives. The remaining members of the gang abandoned their vehicles and fled into the forest, where they are currently being pursued by the police.
Tragically, the DPO sustained a gunshot injury to his stomach, and three other police officers have been confirmed dead at the hospital. Additionally, other individuals who sustained gunshot injuries during the bank attack have been transported to the hospital for medical treatment. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to further understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.
