It’s no longer news that Falconets got eliminated from the ongoing U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. Even though the team was tagged as favorites to win the tournament, Nigeria got outclassed by a disciplined Dutch team. Well, note that Nigeria lost by 0-2 after committing two first-half blunders.
On the other hand, many football fans have reacted to the defeat by applauding the youngsters, while others have pointed out the areas that need improvement. However, Coach Christopher Danjuma has reacted to the team’s defeat against the Netherlands by speaking about his team’s costly errors and failure to take their chances. He also spoke about the controversial penalty incident during the game.
In his post-match interview, Coach Christopher Danjuma said, “We Made Two Mistakes In The Start Of The Game, And We Were Punished For It, But We Had Had Our Chances But Could Not Take Them. Football Is About Taking Your Chances. It’s Unfortunate Because No One Wants To Go Into The Game And Lose.”
In another part of the interview, Danjuma said, “Costa Rica Is A Place Where We Have Learnt A Lot. It Has Brought A Lot Of In-Depth & Insight To Our Coaching Career, Especially Experiencing The World Cup At This Level With The U-20 Team. We Have A Lot To Offer Because We Were Able To Play Local Players At The World, And They Stood Out.”
Speaking On His Team’s Penalty Call, Coach Danjuma Said, “If The Referee Feels It’s Not A Penalty From Her Discretion, She Has The Whistle. If The Penalty Was Played, The Game Would Have Been Dragged Into Extra-time.”
Lastly, coach Danjuma went on to appreciate his players for their performance, adding that the future of the national team is safe.
