‘We must stand together’ — Moses Simon mourns victims of Benue massacre
Super Eagles forward, Moses Simon, has called on Nigerians to unite against violence following the recent massacre in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The brutal overnight attack, which occurred last Friday, reportedly claimed the lives of over 200 people—many of them internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were sheltering at a local Catholic mission.
The tragedy sparked protests across parts of Benue over the weekend, with residents expressing outrage over the repeated attacks in the region. Social media was also flooded with messages of solidarity and calls for justice, drawing national and international attention.
On Sunday, Pope Leo joined in mourning the victims, describing the event as a “terrible massacre” and offering prayers for peace in Nigeria.
Reacting on Monday, Moses Simon expressed deep sympathy via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“My heart goes out to the victims and families affected by the tragic Benue killings,” the FC Nantes winger wrote. “We must stand together against violence and demand justice.”
Simon joins a growing number of public figures and human rights advocates calling for urgent government action and lasting solutions to the ongoing violence in the Middle Belt.
