‘Welcome on board, we’ll support you to succeed’ – House of Reps aspirant, Comrade James Oche tells Ortom

Comrade James Oche, Federal House of Representative aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has described the defection of Governor Samuel Ortom to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a welcome development.

Akpalla, as the young politician and youth leader is known said the defection of Ortom from the All Progressives Congress was a clear indication the APC-led government has failed woefully.

Comrade Oche, who is aspiring to represent the good people of Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo at the green chamber in a statement personally signed and obtained by IDOMA VOICE, said the wave of defection currently sweeping through the ruling party is indeed timely and shows that our democracy would never be undermined by any element.

He promised the governor the needed support to succeed, especially in his efforts to ceaseless attacks on people of the state my Fulani machineries disguising as herdsmen.

His statement reads in full.

It is from the abundance of grace of the Almighty God that I bring you warm greetings. The recent realities especially in security and economy have indeed left all sundry unhappy. At some point with tears in our eyes and with very heavy hearts we were made to bury Reverend Priests and other of our beloved brothers and sisters. Hundreds have been killed in Logo, Ukum, Agatu, Guma and Okpokwu.

To put insult to injury the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria never on any occasion took a decisive step to stop the devilish activities of the herdsmen marauders, rather local vigilantes were arrested for being in possession of fire arms.

It is against this backdrop mixed with other undemocratic practices of the APC-led government that about 15 Senators and 32 Members of the House of Representatives defected from the All Progressive Congress to the People’s Democratic Party. This development puts the PDP as majority in the Senate Chamber. The wave of defection is indeed timely and shows that our democracy would never be undermined by any dictatorial element.

More so with a joyous heart I welcome the Chief Security Officer of Benue State, His Excellency Governor Samuel Ortom back to the People’s Democratic Party. It was becoming rather too easy to understand that the APC-led Federal Government was an impediment to all Benue State action against the herdsmen marauders.

For countless times Governor Ortom’s cry for the President’s intervention were jettisoned, it even got more appalling when the Inspector General of Police flouted the orders of the President on coming to Benue for a detailed investigation on the matter.

On behalf of my supporters and me, we want to state unequivocally that His Excellency is welcome to our folds and would do everything within our power to support him to succeed in the remaining part of his tenure.

I also commend the leadership of the party both at the National and State level for providing enabling environment for Democracy to flourish. My particular commendation goes to the Deputy National Secretary, Dr Emmanuel U J Agbo who has so far shown exemplary and brave Leadership at the center. It is my advice to all well meaning members of the People’s Democratic Party to keep selfish ambitions aside and work to help the Governor stabilize the State.
