By: Tahav Agerzua
Leaders of Utyondu community in Guma local government area at the weekend assured Governor Samuel Ortom that they would support his re-election in 2019.
They spoke during a courtesy call on the Governor and his wife at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi.

The community comprises three council wards of Mbabai, Mbadwem and Uvir in Guma local government area.

Those who spoke included Teryima Apu, Joseph Igba, Saakuma Tyokohol, James Gwabo, Mrs. Joyce Ortese and Justice Augustine Utsaha, retired and Dickson Tarkighir, a member of the House of Representatives.

The speakers lauded Governor Ortom’s projects in the community particularly the Daudu – Gbajimba and Origbo – Imande – Akpu – Gbajimba roads saying they have boosted economic activities and enhanced security in the area.

They regretted that they did not support the election of the Governor in 2015, but assured that they would vote massively for his re-election in 2019.

Those who spoke requested the provision of critical infrastructure, more appointments for indigenes, as well as the exploitation of mineral deposits in the area.

In his response, Governor Ortom assured that the community would get its due during his tenure.
He expressed appreciation for assurance of their support, saying what happened in 2015 was democracy in action as the people exercised their franchise freely adding that he also enjoyed the support of the few who stood up for him in the area.

The Governor said he had never failed in any previous assignment pointing out that the God who had helped him in the past and on whom he relied would also help him to discharge his mandate creditably.

The wife of the Governor, Dr. Eunice Ortom, commended the community for supporting her programmes for curbing the spread of HIV particularly among teenagers.
