We’re yet to see full judgment on Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case – Senate
The Nigerian Senate has acknowledged the recent Federal High Court ruling concerning Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan but says it cannot act on the matter until it officially receives the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, clarified that the upper chamber is aware of the verdict delivered on July 4 but will proceed only after a comprehensive review of the court’s written decision.
“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that judgment was delivered in the matter brought by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,” Adaramodu stated.
“However, we have not yet been served with the Certified True Copy of the judgment. Our legal team, who were present in court, also reported that the full text of the ruling was not read in open court.”
According to Adaramodu, the Senate has already filed a formal request to obtain the CTC, which will allow a proper examination of the court’s pronouncements—especially to determine whether any specific order was issued to nullify Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Red Chamber.
He stressed that until the official enrolled order is served to the parties involved, no party can lawfully enforce any aspect of the ruling.
“On the advice of our legal counsel and in line with constitutional safeguards, the Senate will refrain from taking any steps that could undermine its legal standing or interfere with due process,” he added.
The Senate spokesman called for public understanding and reiterated the chamber’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all decisions are made within the framework of Nigeria’s legal system.
