West Ham United have made a groundbreaking decision by appointing Rehanne Skinner as their new manager, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first female manager for the club since they earned Women’s Super League status in 2018.
Skinner’s appointment comes as she takes over from Paul Konchesky, who stepped down from his role after a season in charge at the end of May.
With a wealth of coaching experience, Skinner previously served as assistant to ex-Lionesses boss Phil Neville and held coaching roles at top clubs like Arsenal. Additionally, she successfully led the England Under-19s, U-20s, and U-21s.
Expressing her delight at joining West Ham, Skinner shared her excitement for the opportunity to lead the team and work towards the club’s vision for progress. She emphasized the sense of togetherness and long-term ambition at West Ham, stating her commitment to building on the club’s previous achievements.
West Ham’s women’s team finished in the eighth position in the WSL last season, but with Skinner at the helm, the club aims to continuously improve and elevate their standing in the league.
Club vice-chair, Karren Brady, expressed her pleasure in confirming Skinner’s appointment, believing she is the ideal candidate to lead the team into the upcoming WSL season. Brady reaffirmed the club’s commitment to growing and developing their women’s team under Skinner’s leadership.
With Rehanne Skinner at the forefront, West Ham is set to embark on a new chapter, seeking to make strides in women’s football and make history with their journey towards success in the Women’s Super League.
