West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been involved in a road traffic accident, the Premier League club has confirmed.
In a statement, West Ham expressed their support, saying, “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michail, his family, and friends at this time.” The club added that they would provide further updates in due course.
Details about Antonio’s condition or the circumstances of the incident have not yet been disclosed.
West Ham are set to face Wolves in their next Premier League fixture on Monday at 20:00 GMT.
Antonio, 34, has been a key figure for the Hammers since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015, scoring 68 goals in 268 league appearances—a record that makes him the club’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League.
This season, Antonio has netted just once in 15 appearances, with his goal coming during a 4-1 victory over Ipswich in October.
He played a pivotal role in West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph in 2023, starting in their 2-1 win against Fiorentina in the final.
Clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, along with the Premier League, have responded to West Ham’s statement on social media, offering their best wishes and support to Antonio and his family.
Internationally, the Jamaica striker has five goals in 21 appearances for his country.
Antonio began his career in non-league football with Tooting & Mitcham before advancing to the professional ranks with Reading.
His career also included stints with Cheltenham, Southampton, and Colchester before joining West Ham.
