Why are conducting stop-and-search at Lekki — NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified its presence at Admiralty Way in Lekki, Lagos State, in response to a query by comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth. The agency explained that the stop-and-search operation is intended to “protect residents from the activities of drug dealers and disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances.”

In a tweet on Friday, Basketmouth had inquired, “Are you people aware of the stop and search going on currently on Admiralty Way in LEKKI by members of your force? #ndlea_nigeria.”

The NDLEA responded on Saturday, saying, “Thanks #basket_mouth. The men are on authorized duty based on intelligence, and their presence there is not a regular occurrence. It’s part of efforts to protect residents from the activities of drug dealers and disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances. The cooperation of all is key.”
