Why Buhari needs to prosecute Obla – HURIWA

The nation’s prominent Non-Governmental organisation and a pro-democracy group- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari for tolerating purported certificate forgers such as the Senior Special Assistant on prosecution to the President Mr Okoi Obono Obla to remain in his government even when statutory bodies have certified that such persons have clearly forged credentials.

Besides, the Rights group has demanded that credible civil society groups should partner discreetly to investigate the wide ranging allegations that family members of the President have corruptly enriched themselves through fraudulent acquisitions of principal shares and stakes in several multi-billion multi-national companies and banks including a Pakistani based Islamic Bank, Keystone bank and Etisalat telecommunications.

HURIWA has also tasked credible groups to investigate the damaging allegations that cousins and nephews of President have abused their privileged positions to set up state of the art mansions and palatial estates in the Government Reserved Areas of Daura in Katsina state which is the homestead of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group then quickly disclosed that: “We are in talks with 35 Civil society groups headed by persons of unimpeachable characters to launch a comprehensive but forensic probe through the use of investigative skills of some of our stakeholders and the legal frameworks such as the Freedom of Information Act to embark on the extensively and challenging investigations of these range of accusations against the president as made by the Presidential Candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Engineer Buba Galadima a former affiliate of President Muhammadu Buhari. We will work with some foreign forensic investigators to achieve a professionally holistic approach to the investigation”.

HURIWA expressed the convinction that the attitudes and tendencies of President Muhammadu Buhari to tolerate and protect his allies with questionable characters and proven records of fake academic certificates is a worrying signal that indeed relatives of the President may have actually abused their privileged positions of being relatives of the President to illegally enrich themselves to the detriment of the corporate image of the Country. The group affirmed that it is in the self enligtened interest of President Muhammadu Buhari to sack all his special assistants indicted institutionally as certificate forgers.
