Why FG has no plan for Bayelsa – Secondus

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, said on Wednesday that the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress had no plans for the development of Bayelsa State.

Secondus, who spoke at the grand finale of the PDP’s campaign for the state governorship election in Yenagoa, said the Federal Government “hated” Bayelsa State.

The event, which held at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion, Yenagoa, was attended by Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Aminu Tambuwal, Seyi Makinde and Emeka Ihedioha of Delta, Sokoto, Oyo and Imo states respectively, while the governors of Benue and Ebonyi states were represented by their deputies.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, John Jonah, Chief Timi Alaibe and Governors Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states respectively, were among the PDP bigwigs conspicuously absent at the rally.

But in attendance were the PDP National Assembly members and the Governor of Bauchi State and the Chairman, PDP National Campaign Committee, Senator Bala Mohammed, who urged the people of the state to vote for the party.

Mohammed, who described Bayelsa as strategic to the economic wellbeing of the country, called on the people not to allow “forces of darkness” to prevail in the coming election.

The PDP national chairman, who formally presented the party flag to the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Douye Diri, said the Federal Government was only interested in the crude oil of the state.

Secondus warned the security agencies against lending themselves as tools for the APC to intimidate the people to pave the way for the party to rig the poll.

He said, “Our world is watching. The international community is watching what will happen in Bayelsa State on November 16. I believe everyone will come out to vote for the PDP.

“They hate you; they don’t like you. They only love your oil. No road from the Federal Government; no water from the Federal Government; no school from the Federal Government; no hospital from the Federal Government. Are you going to vote for them? Are you going to vote for the APC?”

Also speaking, former vice- presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi, said Bayelsa belonged to the PDP and that the incumbent governor had performed satisfactorily to earn the party continuity in the state.

The secretary, PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, who spoke on behalf of the BoT, urged the people not to forget that Bayelsa remained a PDP state.

In their remarks, Okowa and Tambuwal insisted that no one would take Bayelsa away from the PDP. They called on the people to vote and protect their votes.
