The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has explained why he climbed motorcycle, otherwise known as okada during the wedding of his daughter, Tessy on Saturday in Ugbokolo.
Pictures of Moro on bike had gone viral on the internet, with many attributing it to a publicity stunt.
The lawmaker, however, said he needed to be at home before the governor gets there before him, hence his reason for resorting to bike when he met a heavy traffic jame.
He said his action was not special because he has been doing that.
“Many people don’t know that I have been riding on motorcycle, which is why they are talking about this particular one. It’s nothing to me. When I stopped the young man to quickly take me home on Saturday, after my vehicle was blocked because of the heavy traffic, and I had to be home before the governor arrived, to receive him, it didn’t feel strange to me. It’s something I do all the time.
“I had appointment with the governor recently and while on my way to the government House, we ran into traffic. I noticed that if we continued in the traffic, I would keep the governor waiting, which is not good, so I jumped down from my car and climbed the next available bike. As we approached the gate, the security men all took positions, because they didn’t expect to see bike there. They were shocked when they saw me at the back.
“It’s funny reading some comments, that it was a publicity stunt, or that it’s because the road is not motorable. It was neither a publicity stunt nor because the road is not motorable, I did it to meet up with time, because of the heavy traffic, and it’s nothing to me. I didn’t even know that anybody was going to snap me, my head was filled up.
“Yes, I’m a Senator, but I’m a human being, with one head, like all those who use bike on a daily basis. I won’t change from who I am because of my position, I will continue to be me; associate with my people, no matter where they are, ride on bike and even trek about as occasion demands.”
