why I invited Ortom for Port Harcourt projects commissioning – Wike

“One of the reasons why I invited the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, is to let people know that there are people who are committed to the growth and development of this country”

These were words of the governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyeson Wike, as he received the governor of Benue state, Dr. Samuel Ortom at the Port Harcourt airport this morning.

In his address, Wike said Governor Ortom is one of the people who will never be intimidated because of their views. “There are people who stand against injustice in this country” he added.

Wike said further that: “Governor Ortom is one of those few Governors who will stand firm in whatever he believes in. He does not care whether you threaten to deny the people of Benue State what is due them. He will still say the truth as it is. And so to me, those are the kind of people whom I will like to associate with. People who, when they say something in the morning, they stand by it in the afternoon, they stand by it in the night.

“You all know what has happened in Benue State. You know what he has passed through; how he has been intimated. But he stood firm and said no, I will not allow this to happen. That’s the same thing we are doing here in Rivers State. No matter all the intimidations, no matter all they have tried to do to us, we are still firm to defend what is in the interest of our state. So for me, I will like to associate with people like this in trying to make our state better and in trying to make our our country move forward.

“Governor Ortom I want to most sincerity thank you that you have brought honour to us at this time of our relationship. I want to assure you that the relationship between our people and people of Benue will continue to soar higher. What affects Benue affects Rivers State.

“Three weeks ago, I was invited by the Governor of Benue State to come and commission some projects and I went and did commission not less than three projects, and they were road projects for that matter. They received us very well and I did say to him that the people of Rivers State will also like him to come and commission projects in the state because it is important for Nigerians to know that the party in opposition (PDP) is a party that means well for the development of this country”

Culled from Nigerian Concord.
