Why I murdered my girlfriend over burnt rice

A shocking incident has come to light as a 54-year-old man, Mr. Nkeruewen Etuk, admitted to the police that he unintentionally killed his girlfriend, Ms. Esther Ndereke, a few days ago. The reason behind the gruesome act was allegedly due to a heated argument over burnt rice that nearly set their apartment ablaze.

The Cross River State Police Command made this revelation during a recent parade, where Mr. Etuk was presented alongside 18 others, including an ex-convict and two PHCN staff, for various crimes.

The suspect revealed that the tragedy unfolded when Ms. Ndereke carelessly burnt his food, specifically a pot of rice, while cooking. The situation escalated further when the gas was turned on without enough water, posing a significant fire risk to their home.

According to Mr. Etuk, he initially intended only to reprimand her for her carelessness, but their argument spiraled out of control. Sadly, Ms. Ndereke slumped during the fight, leading to her untimely death. Mr. Etuk emphasized that he never intended to take her life and that this incident was an outcome of anger and frustration.

He expressed remorse for his actions and stated that in the two years of their relationship, they had never encountered any serious issues before this tragic incident occurred.

The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, conveyed gratitude to the media for their continued support in bringing such incidents to light. He urged the residents of Cross River state to be proactive in reporting crimes and not remain silent.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and seeking help when emotions escalate beyond control. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served for Ms. Ndereke’s tragic demise.
