Why I no longer employ female secretaries — Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed the reason he stopped working with female secretaries after moving to the church’s Redemption Camp.
According to the respected cleric, the decision was a conscious step taken to guard against situations that could expose him to temptation or moral compromise.
While addressing members of his congregation, Adeboye explained that the move was based on self-awareness and strict personal discipline, especially considering that his responsibilities often keep him at work very late into the night.
“From the moment I got to this campground, from the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I ceased to have a female secretary,” he said, stressing that he clearly understands his own weaknesses.
“I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone at night with the opposite sex.”
However, the pastor was careful to commend his former secretary at the Ebute-Metta church, describing her as a devoted Christian whose conduct was beyond reproach.
“Oh, but if we are to get a secretary like the last one I had, she was a wonderful child of God,” he said.
“She is still a very wonderful child of God, a true child of the living God.”
Adeboye further explained that his workload at the campground frequently keeps him in the office until the early hours of the morning. He recalled an experience where a secretary once approached him around 2 a.m. to offer assistance.
“And when I got here, I would still be in the office at 3 a.m. After a long day’s work, and we have seen the last visitor, then my secretary comes in at 2 a.m., ‘We are through now, Sir. Is there any way I can help you? A cup of tea to relax?”
“At 2 a.m.?” he asked, noting that the incident convinced him it was best to discontinue the arrangement.
The RCCG leader noted that his stance aligns with his long-held teachings on personal responsibility, setting healthy boundaries, and deliberately avoiding circumstances that could lead to temptation.
