Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shed light on his challenging time at Chelsea, explaining the factors that led to his departure from Stamford Bridge this summer after just one year with the club. The 34-year-old forward recently made a move to Marseille, seeking a fresh start and new opportunities on the pitch.
During his brief tenure at Chelsea, Aubameyang made 21 appearances across all competitions, often coming off the bench, and managed to score only three times. The limited playing time raised questions about his struggles at the club.
When asked about the reasons behind his difficulties at Chelsea, Aubameyang pointed to the unique circumstances surrounding his arrival and subsequent managerial changes. He revealed that his initial signing was closely linked to Thomas Tuchel, who was in charge at the time, but shortly after his arrival, Tuchel was unexpectedly sacked. Graham Potter took over but faced challenges of his own, resulting in a short-lived spell as the head coach.
In the midst of managerial uncertainty, Frank Lampard returned as interim boss, introducing his own tactical preferences that did not favor Aubameyang’s playing style. The constant shifts in management and approach had an impact on the striker’s opportunities and overall performance at the club.
“The manner in which I was received by both the players and the staff, at Chelsea, the context was a bit different. Because I arrived at Chelsea in no small part due to Thomas Tuchel, and a week later, he had been sacked,” Aubameyang explained.
The behind-the-scenes chaos and the changing dynamics within the club had an adverse effect on Aubameyang’s form, leading to a lack of consistent playing time and ultimately influencing his decision to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, Aubameyang expressed his frustration over the unfortunate circumstances that hindered his progression at the club.
