Why I was appointed as pioneer VC of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo by President Buhari – Prof Ujah

Professor Innocent Ujah, Vice-Chancellor of the  Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, has revealed why he was President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as pioneer head of the institution.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that President Buhari had in May appointed Prof. Ujah, a native of Aidogodo in Okpokwu LGA as the pioneer VC of the school.

Prof. Innocent Ujah was a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and the former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos.

Few months after his appointment, Prof. Ujah also emerged as President of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA.

Speaking with Apa TV, Prof Ujah attributed his appointment by Mr. President to merit.

His words, “First of all, I would like to say that just like every other professor, I am qualified. It is not out of place. It was not because I am an Idoma person. I was appointed by Mr. President solely on merit.

“You’ll realize that I have come all the way. As far back as 2001, I became a professor. Also, I’ve been dean of faculty; of course I’ve headed several faculties. I was also appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as the head of first and the only Nigeria Institute of Medical Research. I am the first from the northern part of the country to assume such position.

“My six years of superintending that place, I brought light. I changed the whole concept and orientation about medical research.

I believe that appointment comes from God. I was not the only qualified person but, Mr. President was used by God to appoint me as pioneer VC of FUSHO.

“Our people are intelligent and have a drive for knowledge. There is no discipline that you will go that you will not see Idoma people. I am happy about the institution coming to Idoma land.”
