President Bola Tinubu has explained why he withdrew the previous nomination of Dr. Maryam Shetty from Kano and replaced her with a new nominee, Dr. Mairiga Mahmud, also from Kano.
Tinubu also put forward Mr. Festus Keyamo for the Senate’s consideration and approval as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read at the plenary session on Fridays, President Tinubu stated:
“I am adhering to the provision of Section 147 subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended. As a result, I have decided to withdraw the nomination of Dr. Maryam Shetty as a nominee.
“Furthermore, I take pleasure in nominating Dr. Mariga Mahmud and Mr. Festus Keyamo for the Senate’s consideration and, if found suitable, confirmation as ministers.
“I sincerely hope that the Senate will kindly consider and approve the above request. Distinguished Senate President and esteemed Senators, please accept the assurances of my highest regard,” said Tinubu.
