When asked about who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this year, Lionel Messi told TYC Sport: “Benzema deserves to win Ballon d’Or.
“There’s no doubt, it is very clear that Benzema had a spectacular year and ended up consecrating himself with the Champions League, being fundamental from 8th RD forward in all matches.
“I think there is no doubt this year.”
Karim Benzema is the clear front-runner for the Ballon d’Or after helping Real Madrid win the La Liga and Champions League titles this season. He scored 44 goals and registered 14 assists in all competitions, including 15 goals in the Champions League.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on 17 October this year, meaning the performances of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar will not be counted in this one
