A house of Representative member, Benjamin Kalu, has said the constituents pressure demanding for various needs to be met, are killing Nigerian lawmakers.
A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia State, said this while speaking with newsmen after the house adjourned its sitting to mourn Rep Ossy Prestige ((APGA-Abia).
56-year-old Prestige passed away in Germany after a brief illness.
The Chieftain confessed that the demands on the lawmakers from their constituency had deteriorated the healths of most of his colleagues.
“These guys here are suffering; they are under stress. That is why most of the sickness they are passing through is a heart attack and failure of organs due to stress for their constituents.
“That is the truth, and the truth must be told, whether you want to understand it or not, let the press know that the pressure from constituents is killing members of the National Assembly.
“That is the truth; the pressure is too much, people are receiving pressure from constituents on issues that are way out of the scope,” Newsmen quoted him.
Kalu shares his disappointment as he regrets that lawmakers are asked to build roads, hospitals, and others.
The lawmaker further explains that rep members who do not know how to talk things out with their constituency often carry the pressure with them.
