Why PDP should forget unseating Tinubu in 2027 – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may struggle to reclaim power in the 2027 elections due to poor leadership within the party.

Speaking during his end-of-year media briefing on Monday, Wike criticized the PDP leadership for lacking focus, commitment, and strategic direction. He urged the party to start preparing for 2031 if it fails to address its internal challenges.

“We have a leadership that is unfocused, that does not know what to do, and that ignores advice,” Wike said. “If the leadership were committed, they would reflect, ask why things are going this way, and find solutions. It’s not just about taking over government; it’s about positioning ourselves effectively.”

Wike added: “By 2027, it’s likely that we may not succeed. But does that mean we allow the party to die? Shouldn’t we start rebuilding now ahead of 2031?”

The FCT Minister stressed that the PDP can still bounce back if its leadership demonstrates genuine commitment. “Nothing is impossible when there is dedication. What is happening to my party now is what I predicted. I have repeatedly warned that without the right approach, this is where we would end up. Leadership is key in every sphere—associations, government, and politics. Wrong decisions by leaders have consequences,” he noted.

Wike’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the PDP’s preparedness for the next general elections and the need for internal reforms to restore public confidence.
