Why people look down on agriculture in Nigeria

Like I said in one of my previous posts, whenever people hear the word, Agriculture, what comes to their mind is ‘demeaning’ and ‘dirty’ job.

Even with the current technology which has transformed the entire agricultural process into a stress-free job, some people still picture farmers trudging on a large expanse of land, and trying to do some hand weeding and other tough farm work.

Agriculture is generally perceived in the wrong light; maybe as the last resort in terms of job creation or not as a reputable job for anyone, but that’s not true!

Agriculture is another branch of entrepreneurship; just that we have refused to see it in that light because of the archaic perception about it.

Agriculture is a response to man’s need for food and that makes every farmer who operates with this mindset, an entrepreneur.

The whole world feeds on the proceeds from agriculture; that’s a solution to a big problem!

Today, commercial farming is more prevalent than subsistence farming.

This means that more farmers have advanced from small-scale farming aimed at feeding their families alone to large-scale farming which contributes to solving the world’s food problems.

Farmers are also entrepreneurs because the world would be facing serious food crises, and humanity would be threatened with extinction but for their intervention.

Nowadays, large-scale farmers take risks in their farming business, explore the latest technology, and also diversify into providing other services, all serving man’s needs in one way or the other.

Think about the groceries, fruits, crops, meat from animals, milk and dairy products, and other products made from raw materials gotten from agriculture.

Without agriculture, the world will starve and that’s why Farm4Me and Viable X exist.

We are dedicated to solving food problems and providing agricultural solutions, one day at a time.
