Why Tinubu scrapped Niger Delta, Sports Ministries

President Bola Tinubu has abolished the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development, replacing them with new structures.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the creation of a Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee all regional development commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission and others across Nigeria.

Additionally, the National Sports Commission will now assume the functions previously held by the Ministry of Sports Development.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) also merged the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, further streamlining the administration.

These decisions were made during a FEC meeting presided over by President Tinubu in Abuja, the first since his return from a two-week working vacation. Most cabinet members were present, though some, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and several key ministers, were absent due to national duties abroad.

Before the meeting began, President Tinubu swore in Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), who emphasized his dedication to combating corruption in his remarks to the media.
