Why we gave Bobrisky ‘Best Dressed Female’ Award – Actress Eniola Ajao

Eniola Ajao, the Nollywood Actress and filmmaker, has clarified that the “Best Dressed Female” Award presented to cross-dresser Bobrisky was intended as a lighthearted gesture.

During an interview with Arise TV host Kachi, Ajao expressed regret to Nigerians, explaining that the award was part of a strategy to generate buzz for her movie, ‘Ajakaju.’

“It was all in good fun, you know. We just wanted to stir things up a bit and get people talking about the film. I’ve been shouldering the burden of promoting this project alone, and I needed a way to get it noticed,” Ajao shared.

“I’ve been trying to safeguard the reputation of many individuals, but I’ve been doing it solo without much support. So, I thought, ‘How can we get people buzzing about this film?’ That’s when we decided to give the award to Bob, knowing he’s always a controversial figure.”

“In the end, it did get people talking, although some were unhappy about it and are now pointing fingers at Femi Adebayo. However, Adebayo was unaware of most of what was happening. I simply asked him to assist me in announcing the award,” she explained.

“I’ve seen comments online from people saying they won’t watch the film. I want to plead with you all that it was all in jest, and Femi Adebayo was not involved in the controversial aspects of the premiere.”

“I didn’t anticipate that some would be upset due to Bob’s gender. I just want to sincerely apologize. I have deep respect for our culture, our traditions, and all the women out there,” Ajao added.

Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, competed alongside other women and was declared the winner of the “Best Dressed Female” award at the premiere of ‘Ajakaju’ on Sunday, March 25, 2024.
