Mercy Eke, a former Big Brother Naija star, has opened up about the challenges she faced during the All-Stars edition of the reality show. She believes that her lack of support from the majority of viewers was due to a past victory and a sense of sentiment.
In a recent interview with Hero Daniels, Mercy became emotional, expressing her frustration over being perceived as too ambitious. She was moved to tears as she questioned whether it was wrong for a woman to aspire to achieve more.
She said, “This last season of Big Brother, at a point, I started questioning myself like I feel like I’m too ambitious. Is it a good thing for a woman to want more? Because people almost made me feel like I’m too greedy. And most times when I talk to Biggie, that’s what I ask him.”
Mercy further explained her inner turmoil, stating, “In my head, I started questioning myself: Do I want too much? Should I have not looked for this? Okay fine, I’m not hungry, but if I want this green, can I not want this pink? And is there a problem if I want white? It made me start questioning myself too much. What do I even have? I don’t even have much, but people made it seem like I should let others have their moment.”
She expressed her gratitude for her fans, who were her primary source of support during this challenging period. Mercy also discussed the difficulty she faced in deciding to return to the Big Brother House, where another winner from a previous season was also a contestant.
Mercy emphasized that the energy and encouragement she received from both inside and outside the House were vital in helping her overcome the sentiment and negativity. She vowed to keep shining and not show her tears, despite the challenges she faced.
“But that is pure wickedness because I checked myself, what did I do wrong? I did not do anything wrong. I did not commit any crime. The only crime I committed was wanting more.”
