FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike revealed a revamped pricing structure for Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) in Abuja. The FCT Administration has determined that the cost for obtaining a C-of-O will now stand at N5 million.
Wike disclosed this significant update during a meeting with real estate developers in Abuja on Tuesday. Emphasizing a streamlined process, he declared that applicants who complete their payment within four months of land allotment will receive the C-of-O promptly.
In a move to enhance transparency and accountability, Wike underscored that prior to C-of-O issuance, he would seek President Bola Tinubu’s approval to link the National Identification Numbers of applicants. This measure aims to curb the issuance of multiple certificates for the same piece of land, putting an end to fraudulent practices.
“The days of multiple people receiving fictitious certificates of origin for the same piece of land were over,” asserted Wike, adding that such irregularities would no longer be tolerated.
Highlighting the economic implications of land allocation, Wike stated, “The C-of-O enables you to do business. When we make the right decision, some people will be happy, and some will not. The rich will kick against some of our decisions, but anything that will help our people must be done.”
He further pledged to maintain order and sanity in the FCT’s land management procedures, addressing concerns about the monthly salary gap of N8.9 billion between the Federal Capital Development Authority and the FCT Administration.
Wike, who assumed office three months ago, revealed that he has already saved N110 billion for the FCT. He assured that these funds would be allocated to specific projects aimed at enhancing the region’s development.
