Wike approves promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to Directors in FCTA
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has confirmed the promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across its ministries and departments, following the approval of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, revealed that the promotions stemmed from the results of the administration’s maiden Computer-Based Promotion Examination held on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University’s Duste-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council.
The initiative was introduced to address the backlog of delayed promotions from 2023 to 2025 for officers on Grade Level 16, thereby elevating them to Grade Level 17.
Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, disclosed that the 49 newly promoted directors will occupy part of the 63 existing vacancies across the service.
He added that the Education Officer Cadre recorded the highest success rate, with 20 officers promoted, while the Accountant Cadre followed with nine.
Other cadres such as Civil Engineering, Tourism, Fisheries, Social Welfare, and Medical Officers each filled one vacant slot, having had only a single eligible officer apiece.
Olayinka further explained that within the Education Officer Cadre, 20 vacancies were contested by 820 eligible officers, while in the Administration Cadre, 12 candidates competed for 10 openings.
The FCTA had earlier introduced the computer-based testing system for promotions to ensure transparency, eliminate undue interference, and accelerate the release of results.
A 60 percent benchmark was adopted to fast-track grading and align with modern technology-driven assessment standards.
