The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on churches to maintain support for politicians even after their terms in office have concluded.
Speaking at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt during the birthday celebration of House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, Wike urged the clergy not to neglect their duty to pray for the political class.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, reminded the congregation of the significant contributions made by politicians to churches while in office and stressed the need for continuity in support, regardless of their status outside of governance.
“The church should also remain steadfast; the church should also not abandon people when they’re no longer in office. When most of us were in office, there was no church we weren’t contributing to. But immediately we left office, it was a different story,” Wike remarked.
He urged religious leaders to demonstrate the principles they preach, emphasizing that consistent support and prayer for politicians should remain unchanged regardless of their status.
The Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abass in his remark, praised Chinda’s contributions to the lower chamber, hailing him as one of the exemplary representatives from Rivers State.
“Hon. Kingsley Chinda remains one of the best products in the National Assembly, and ever since he stepped into the NASS, he has been giving Rivers State very good representation,” Speaker Abass added.
