Wike endorses APC candidate in Abuja ahead of 2026 council polls
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the February 2026 Abuja Area Council elections.
Wike gave his support on Monday during the flag-off of a 7-kilometre road with four-span bridges linking Tunga Madaki to eight neighbouring settlements in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The project, being executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is expected to be completed by June 2026.
The incumbent AMAC chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, is seeking re-election on the ruling party’s platform.
Idoma voice gathered that Wike urged residents to support Maikalangu, saying the project was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and a response to the community’s demand during land acquisition for the second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
According to him, the road would not only connect the community to the airport through Bill Clinton Drive but also open access to nine neighbouring settlements.
The matter has sparked political reactions, with Wike’s remarks linking the road project to support for the APC in the forthcoming polls.
