Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has described his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom as a leader who truly cares about his people. Governor Wike stated this a short while ago while commissioning the Customary Court – George Akume road in Makurdi. His words:
“On behalf of the people and Government of Rivers State, we want to appreciate my dear brother Governor Ortom for given us the honour to be part of this occasion of commissioning a very important road that the people of this area have for long yearned for its construction.
It is not easy passing through what the Governor of Benue passed through and yet he is doing projects. For many of you who know me, I go to those who care about their people. I associate myself with those who think about the welfare of their people. I don’t go to those who don’t have character. Ortom is one of those Governors I can at any day, any time, any second any minute, if he asks me to come and do anything, I will do it because he is a man of character. He is a man who has stood for justice. He is a man who has stood against oppression and marginalisation just like I would do.
So I am happy that today he has honoured one of your own Gabriel Suswan even though I am aware that he may not have told him and that is what is called appreciating some body. So I take that yes, I am the one commissioning this project that has been named after my friend Dr. Gabriel Suswan in the name of God for the people to use.”
