FCT: Wike revokes land allocations of Hope Uzodimma, Abike Dabiri, Chimaroke Nnamani, 563 others

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked land allocations belonging to several governors and other prominent political figures.

Among those affected are the governors of Bayelsa and Imo States, Senator Douye Diri and Senator Hope Uzodimma, respectively; Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele; and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. These individuals are part of a group of 568 allottees whose land allocations in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, have been withdrawn.

According to Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the FCT Minister, the withdrawal of the Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) for these plots followed the expiration of an extended two-week grace period given to the allottees to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills.

Other notable individuals on the list of affected allottees include former Governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and Hon. Oluwole Oke, a federal lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.

In October 2024, a total of 3,273 landowners were initially issued a two-week ultimatum to pay their outstanding bills or risk losing their R-of-O titles. Out of this number, 2,511 complied, leaving 762 defaulters. An additional two-week grace period was later granted, but as of January 15, 2025—12 days after the extended deadline—only 194 more allottees had made payments, leaving 568 still in default.

A notice of withdrawal, sighted by our correspondent, stated:

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) wishes to inform the allottee(s)/title holder(s) of plot(s) of land in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills after the expiration of the grace period granted by the Honourable Minister, Federal Capital Territory, that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property has been withdrawn pursuant to the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravention of the terms of the grant, which obligated the title/interest holders to settle all bills.”

The FCTA further clarified that this action does not affect allottees who completed their payments on or before January 15, 2025.
