Wike set to review 45-year-old Abuja master plan

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviewing and upgrading the Abuja master plan.

Wike made this declaration during a visit from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) team in Abuja on Tuesday.

He explained that the project, titled the Review and Upgrading of the Integrated Urban Development Master Plan for Abuja, will be executed in collaboration with JICA.

“Rest assured, we are fully committed to this project and will do everything within our power to ensure its successful implementation,” Wike said.

The minister also assured the JICA team that the FCT Administration would meet all necessary requirements for the project’s execution in due time.

The former Rivers State Governor emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration with JICA for the development of the FCT, including its satellite towns and surrounding areas.

Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), added that updating the 45-year-old Abuja Master Plan is critical to tackling current urban challenges.

“We are focusing on infrastructure, water supply, power, stormwater and wastewater systems, as well as the development of a smart city to position Abuja as one of the top cities globally. Urban mobility remains a challenge, and we hope this review will address those areas to improve it,” Ahmad said.
