Wike talks like Nigeria’s founder, but was absent during June 12 struggle – Dele Momodu
Publisher and politician, Chief Dele Momodu, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, questioning his commitment to democratic values and accusing him of creating turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Momodu alleged that Wike is working to manipulate the zoning of the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to suit his personal ambitions.
“It’s absurd that one individual, who should be focused on his duties in Abuja, is trying to dictate where the PDP presidential ticket should go in 2027,” Momodu stated. “What Wike is doing is a repeat of what he did in Rivers State, and it’s clear he has support from powerful quarters.”
The former PDP presidential aspirant further questioned Wike’s authority to speak on national democratic issues, pointing out that he played no visible role during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggles.
“Where was Wike during the June 12 struggle? Who knew him then? Now he talks like he founded Nigeria,” Momodu said.
Chief Momodu also linked Wike to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, accusing the former governor of refusing to relinquish control after leaving office.
“A crisis of monumental scale erupted simply because one man wouldn’t walk away from power. It even led to the declaration of a state of emergency. This is unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history,” he said.
Momodu did not stop there. He further alleged that Wike’s actions amount to a political coup within the PDP, warning that his divisive influence could destroy the very party that elevated him.
“What he’s doing is tantamount to staging a coup against the PDP. He owes his political rise to the party and should not be the one sowing seeds of disunity,” Momodu asserted.
