Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday arrested a woman named Hauwa Sani for attempting to smuggle 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, along with a two-year-old child in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement posted on X.com on Saturday. According to the statement, police operatives apprehended the suspect while she was trying to transport the ammunition to Katsina State, where she is reportedly from.
They also recovered a cash sum of ₦78,500 and a mobile phone during the arrest.
The statement reads, “On 23/8/2024 at about 1710hrs, based on credible information, police operatives attached to Keffi Division intercepted and arrested Hauwa Sani, along with a two-year-old child, in Doro village, Katsina State.
The operatives recovered 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, one Tecno mobile phone, and ₦78,500 from the suspect as exhibits.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect received the ammunition at Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and concealed it in the gallon of palm oil while en route to Katsina State before she was apprehended.”
The Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the suspect and the exhibits to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
