A Tragic incident unfolded on Monday morning in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, a large tree toppled, resulting in the tragic death of a woman and injuries to ten others. The unfortunate event transpired while the deceased and the injured individuals were waiting by the roadside near the Baystar petrol station in the Zango-Kulende area, opposite Oke-Andi junction, Ilorin. They had gathered there with the intention of boarding commercial vehicles to their respective destinations when the tree suddenly fell.
This incident, which occurred at approximately 8 a.m., caused a state of chaos and bewilderment in the vicinity. Regrettably, the woman lost her life at the scene. The falling tree also severed electricity cables and inflicted damage on nearby shops.
Thankfully, some shop owners and a vulcanizer named Malam Abdulrasheed narrowly escaped harm, as they had not yet opened for business when the tree came crashing down.
The injured victims received immediate attention and were swiftly taken to the Olutayo Clinic, a private hospital situated behind the Baystar petrol station. While some of them were treated and subsequently discharged, those in more critical conditions were referred to the Government General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Oke-Oyi.
Efforts were undertaken to clear the fallen tree and its remnants, involving the engagement of saw millers to handle the task.
