WTO job: Details of Buhari’s meeting with Okonjo-Iweala

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that he would ensure she emerges Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Buhari made this declaration when he received Okonjo-Iweala at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Monday.

Okonjo-Iweala is one of two candidates left in the race for the WTO top job.

“We will do all that we can to ensure you emerge as the Director-General of WTO. You deserve this.

“I did the same for Dr Akinwunmi Adesina (who contested) for President of the African Development Bank.

“You are both highly qualified. We will continue to support you. I will immediately make those calls,” Buhari told Dr Okonjo-Iweala.

Okonjo-Iweala in response, thanked Buhari, his Chief of Staff and Ministers.

“The Ministers have been working around the clock to ensure that I succeed,” she added.
