According to Relevo, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emerged as the top contender to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. The former Real Madrid midfielder is reportedly in constant communication with the La Liga giants regarding a potential managerial role in the near future.
Having played for Los Blancos, Alonso made significant contributions, notching six goals and 31 assists in 236 games. After leaving Real Madrid in 2014, the Liverpool legend joined Bayern Munich, where he eventually retired three years later.
Alonso’s managerial journey began with Real Madrid’s youth team during the 2018-2019 season, and he later became the head coach of Real Sociedad B in the following campaign.
His contract with Bayer Leverkusen is set to expire in 2024. Meanwhile, Ancelotti is expected to fulfill his contract with Real Madrid before assuming the role of Brazil’s manager just ahead of the 2024 Copa America.
