YEDC begins installation of free prepaid meters for Band A customers

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has commenced the deployment of 1,880 free prepaid meters to Band A customers under the Meter Asset Funds (MAF) Scheme.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by YEDC’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, on Tuesday. According to the statement, the initiative targets Band A customers who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April, aiming to enhance billing accuracy and customer satisfaction.

“Yola Electricity Distribution Company is pleased to announce the provision of meters under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme. This initiative, targeting unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure accurate billing and improve customer satisfaction,” the statement read.

The distribution, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), includes 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters. The installation process will be conducted by approved vendors between November 18 and November 30, 2024.

Initiated on June 13, 2024, the MAF project is part of the Presidential Metering Initiative aimed at accelerating metering across the country.

“These meters will be installed at no cost to YEDC customers. We encourage all Band A customers to cooperate with the installers visiting their homes and business premises during the metering exercise,” the statement added.

YEDC reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity distribution and providing reliable, transparent services to all customers.
