Yetunde Lawal: Kwara student killed, dismembered by cleric’s son

A final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Yetunde Lawal, has been murdered,

IDOMA VOICE gathered that a suspect, identified as the son of a prominent Muslim cleric in the Isalekoto community, has been arrested and is currently in police custody at the Kwara State Police Command headquarters in Ilorin in connection with the alleged crime.

Yetunde was last seen on Monday, February 10, 2025, after attending a naming ceremony. Witnesses claim she received a phone call from a friend, abruptly left her meal, and exited the event.

Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her missing the following day at the Oja-Oba Police Division in Ilorin.

According to sources, police investigators used her phone records to trace her last call, leading them to a suspect residing in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin, though his family home is in Isalekoto.

Upon arrest, the suspect initially denied any involvement in Yetunde’s disappearance. However, during a search of his residence, he confessed that she had visited him and allegedly died of an asthma attack after he invited her over.

Further police investigation revealed Yetunde’s dismembered body hidden in a bowl, along with tools used for the gruesome act.

Authorities suspect that this may not be the first crime committed by the suspect, as his residence contained disturbing evidence, including a table equipped with tools that appeared to be used for dismembering bodies.

The suspect admitted that he had met Yetunde on Facebook, obtained her contact details, and later invited her to his house.

Spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, stating:

“The command is aware of the gruesome killing of Miss Yetunde H. Lawal. On 11/02/2025, at about 18:00 hours, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division, Oja-Oba, by her father, Mr. Ibrahim A. Lawal.

Immediately, police detectives swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect. The case was transferred yesterday to the SCID for a thorough investigation. Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.”

The case remains under active investigation at the Kwara State Police Command.
