Late on Monday night, a devastating fire broke out in Yola Town’s main market, resulting in the destruction of several sections of the bustling marketplace. The incident caused considerable loss as numerous shops were affected, leading to the destruction of goods worth millions of Naira.
Fortunately, the prompt response from firefighters prevented the fire from consuming the entire market. A resident living close to the market praised the firefighters’ efforts, highlighting that their swift action played a crucial role in containing the blaze.
While the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain, there are reports indicating that the market has experienced fire outbreaks on a yearly basis, making it susceptible to such incidents.
As of now, the State fire service has not issued an official statement regarding the situation. However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the fire has been brought under control. In response to the emergency, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, deployed additional personnel to prevent any looting or potential chaos.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings
