oruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Igboho, has made his return to Nigeria. According to a statement by Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, he is back in the country to attend his mother’s burial.
Koiki confirmed this in a brief statement accompanied by a video shared on his X page on Thursday.
In the video, Igboho is seen alongside some individuals, presumably at the mortuary.
Koiki wrote: “I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is currently on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother MRS S.A.ADEYEMO. The body of MRS S.A ADEYEMO was picked up from the mortuary in SAKI TOWN some few hours ago.”
Igboho has been residing outside Nigeria since 2021 when he fled to Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS). The DSS had raided his residence in the Soka area of Oyo State on allegations of terrorism.
Subsequently, Igboho was sought after for his advocacy for the Yoruba Nation and his alleged involvement in clashes with Fulani herders accused of attacking farmers in the Southwest.
While in Benin Republic, Igboho was apprehended and detained when attempting to travel to Germany. Recently, he was released after spending two years in a Beninese prison.
During his detention in Benin Republic, Igboho’s mother, who resided in Saki, Oyo State, passed away.
