Honorable Yusuf Liman, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has issued a stern warning to Bello El-Rufai regarding his attempts to intimidate and threaten the House over the investigation into his father’s eight-year tenure in office.
Recall that the House of Assembly, on Tuesday, established a committee to probe financial transactions, loans, grants, and project execution from 2015-2023, during the tenure of former Governor El-Rufai.
However, the Speaker has alleged that Bello took to social media with two tweets, implying a call to “fight” and disrespecting all the members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Furthermore, he expressed concern that Bello, a member representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, sent insulting and subtly threatening messages to him.
In a statement released by his Media Aide, Malam Suraj Bamalli, the Speaker highlighted that the screenshots of these tweets and messages have circulated widely, sparking concern among the citizens of Kaduna State.
“It is disheartening that a federal lawmaker, entrusted with representing the people, would resort to such behavior, attempting to obstruct the lawful functions of the state Assembly,” he stated.
The Speaker emphasized that threats and intimidation from any quarters, including federal lawmakers, would not dissuade the Assembly from its pursuit of justice and accountability. He reiterated that the House remains steadfast in its mandate to provide checks and balances and uphold the rule of law in Kaduna State.
He urged the people of the state to maintain their unwavering support for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
The Speaker reaffirmed that the members of the Assembly have taken an oath to uphold the integrity of their office and ensure due diligence in their duties, regardless of any attempts at intimidation or threats.
