You don’t have NYSC certificate — Lagos CP fires back at Sowore
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has responded to activist Omoyele Sowore, dismissing his criticism of the state’s police leadership and questioning his own qualifications to make such comments.
Reacting to Sowore’s remarks in a recent interview, the Commissioner defended his record, noting that he has served in Lagos for over nine months with professionalism and commitment.
“During his interview, he said the Commissioner of Police is not competent. I am very competent. I’ve been here for more than nine months,” he stated. “Even in court, where the accused person shows good conduct, the prosecution still has the right to point out his bad conduct.”
The Commissioner further alleged that Sowore does not possess a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, claiming that although he was posted to Adamawa State, he failed to complete the mandatory one-year service.
“I want to make it abundantly clear Sowore doesn’t have an NYSC certificate. He was posted to Adamawa and never did his service. So such a person, who isn’t qualified to bear the NYSC certificate of our great country Nigeria, cannot be the one calling others miscreants or disturbing the peace of Lagos. We won’t allow it,” he said.
The comments have since stirred controversy online, with some Nigerians demanding evidence to substantiate the Commissioner’s claims, while others urged caution and professionalism in public exchanges between security officials and citizens.
As of the time of this report, Sowore has not issued a public response to the allegations.
